Safe, healthy, and stimulating school environment

Uptown Montessori School is licensed by the Ministry of Education and our facility and programming is in compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014.

UMS programs are dedicated to delivering stimulating learning experiences in a nurturing environment which heightens children’s social, intellectual, physical, and emotional development. This enhancement happens throughout a child’s daily routine, which incorporates a balance of both indoor and outdoor activities.

The experiences that children have in the early years have a remarkable and long-lasting impact on children’s learning, development, health, and well-being.  Uptown Montessori School is dedicated to providing a safe and encouraging environment for your child, embedded in the Montessori philosophy of teaching which focuses on the child's experiences, characterized by self-directed activity, where the teacher's role is more observational and to serve as a guide. Our programs are planned to promote all areas of development for the children.

The educational materials and the structured classroom activities will establish your child’s sound introduction to practical life, sensorial learning, language, mathematics, culture, arts, and geography, within a safe and loving school community. The setting that UMS provides for your child’s learning will help them build their self-esteem and establish the social skills necessary for them to grow into positive life-long learners.

At UMS, we strongly value our staff and are dedicated to their enrichment and well-being.  We firmly believe that lifelong learning is essential for engaging the brain and maintaining a healthy life, while maximizing the potential of our highly qualified staff.
Educators will be the most valuable to their students when they are driven and confident in their respective areas of instruction.  To maintain the value that we place on the importance of lifelong learning, we provide each staff member with internal UMS training, as well as the opportunity to attend various Professional Development training workshops.

We strongly believe that children’s education is a collaborative responsibility between parents and UMS educators. UMS educators work together with the parents of children to exchange information about the child’s language, culture, interests and development so that the sum of a child’s experience is greater than that which parents or UMS educators alone could provide.

Furthermore, UMS values parental engagement and will ensure that communication takes place regularly through daily open communication, family events, and a willingness to discuss the progress and development of your child at any time.

Our educators are mindful of equitable instruction and will modify programming to fit the needs of individual students, recognizing that each child possesses different needs and develops at a different pace.

Staff planning takes place daily and is based on pedagogical observations made within the classroom.  Student individuality is celebrated and cherished, and used to inform the future planning for each child as an individual.
